Buckle up, this page has everything you need to know about getting your delivery from A Wood Idea.
DELIVERY FEES
Here’s the thing about doors and floors – they’re big and heavy (at least the good quality ones we stock are). And, unfortunately, that substantial size and weight means that moving them from A to B costs more than your average online order.
We’ve worked hard to keep our delivery costs as low as possible and as easy to understand as possible. We have three delivery types – doors, door furniture & everything else.
When it comes to doors, we have a two tier delivery fee structure – one price for orders of 1-2 items and a separate price for orders of 3 or more items.

Your total delivery cost will depend on how many delivery types you have in your basket and will be automatically calculated for you at the checkout, but if you have any queries our team are always happy to help – so feel free to get in touch.
FREE DELIVERY
We offer free delivery on all orders over £895. We also offer free delivery on door furniture orders of £400 and over.
DELIVERY EXCEPTIONS & SURCHARGES
Additional shipping charges apply for parts of mainland Scotland, the Scottish Highlands and other surrounding UK isles. Please find below the postcode delivery surcharges that apply:
AB – £39
DD – £41
IV1-39 – £43
IV40-57 – £75
KW1-14 – £43
KY – £26
PA1-19 – £26
PA20-61 – £74
PH1-26 – £38
PH27-41 – £40
Delivery surcharges will be calculated at checkout, and are additional to the standard delivery charges for each delivery type (‘Doors’, ‘Door Furniture’, ‘Everything else’) within your order.
Delivery surcharges for specific postcodes listed above, will also be added to any orders applicable for free delivery. If it was up to us we wouldn’t charge an additional surcharge for these postcodes, however this cost covers surcharges that courier companies operate as standard in these areas.
Unfortunately, in most circumstances, we are currently unable to ship and deliver to the Isle of Wight, the Scottish Isles (including the Hebrides & the Orkneys), and Northern Ireland. However, exceptions can sometimes be made so please feel free to get in touch with us directly to discuss your order – we’ll happily negotiate with our suppliers and couriers on your behalf and will always do our best to help you where possible.
WHICH COURIER DO YOU USE?
The short answer is: it depends.
We ship many of our products directly via our suppliers which helps to keep costs low, helps to speed up delivery times and keeps the carbon footprint of our products as small as possible.
DELIVERY PROCESS
Once you have placed your order, you will be contacted within 2-3 working days to arrange and confirm your order delivery date.
Unfortunately, although we’ll always make every effort to provide you with the most accurate estimate of delivery time, it’s not always possible to provide one due to the different courier networks we use. Typically, delivery will be made between 8am-6pm (although it could arrive outwith those times).
We currently primarily offer delivery Monday to Friday. However, we may be able to arrange a Saturday delivery under special circumstances. Get in touch directly with our team if you want to discuss this option.
Similarly, in some cases, we might also be able to arrange for next day deliveries on certain products – speak to our team.
DELIVERY UNLOADING
Unfortunately, due to insurance restrictions, our couriers are only able to deliver items to ‘kerbside’ – it is not their responsibility to take the delivery into your home.
So, we strongly recommend you have help on hand to move your goods into your property. Whilst it’s possible to carry a door by yourself, we wouldn’t recommend it – this is quite literally a ‘many hands make light work type’ of situation.
DAMAGES
We advise our customers to check all our goods when they arrive for any damage caused during transit, prior to signing for them. If you find any damage, this must be reported to us within 48 hours so we can sign this off as damaged and a replacement can be arranged. Anything longer than this period will make any damage claims invalid.
Also, the person signing to accept the goods must be over the age of 18.
LIABILITIES
If your courier is unable to make a delivery because you were not available, you will be liable to be charged for re-delivery.
Taking all of the above into consideration, we’d also strongly recommend that you do not book any trade person to complete a job involving goods ordered from us until after they’ve been safely delivered and signed for.
CLICK & COLLECT ORDERS
We offer a Click & Collect service available from our showroom and warehouse based in Blaydon-upon-Tyne in the North East of England. Our Click & Collect service is completely free of charge and, depending on what products you’re ordering, can in some cases even be offered as a same-day service.
When you place an order with Click & Collect, our team will typically be in touch within 1-2 working days to let you know when your order will be ready for collection.
As we do not hold stock of all available products in our own warehouse, depending on what you order, we might need to arrange for some or all of your products to be shipped to our warehouse via our supplier couriers. This inevitably means that order fulfilment times vary a little, however the vast majority of our Click & Collect orders are ready for collection within 5 working days. Orders are available for collection during our normal business hours (Monday-Friday, 8:30am-5pm. Saturday, 9:30am-4:30pm. Sunday, closed.).
